This is a great cartoon about the historic nature of Barack Obama's campaign and upcoming inauguration. It really sums it up. Obama obviously idolizes both these men and looks to both of them for guidance. What an historic time for your country.We all know Obama and the country face historic challenges of major proportion. We must be realistic about the pace of change we can expect as a nation. They say it takes an ocean liner miles and miles to stop or turn. Many of our country's problems are so entrenched it will be a challenge to to turn the ship of state and head in a new direction. At least someone will be at the helm who in my opinion is talented and well intentioned and will do everything they can to make the needed navigational changes to head in a different direction.My hope is that the nation will band together and make the compromises needed to develop a consensus for where the country needs to go.Click here and enter August 29th:

BUSH WILL CREATE 3 CONSERVATION ZONES IN PACIFIC OCEAN

WASHINGTON - President Bush will create three more marine national monuments in the Pacific Ocean today, designating areas that will span 195,280 square miles and protect some of the most ecologically rich areas of the world's oceans, said White House spokeswoman Dana Perino.

The decision to make the designations under the Antiquities Act, two weeks before Bush leaves office, means that he will have protected more square miles of ocean than any person in history. In 2006 Bush created the Papahanaumokuakea Marine National Monument in the northwestern Hawaiian Islands, an area of 138,000 square miles.

BUSH'S ONE LAST BLOW TO THE ENVIRONMENT

WHAT COULD POSSIBLY be left of the environment for the Bush administration to degrade on its way out the door? Leave it to the Forest Service not to see the forest or the trees.
The Washington Post this week reported that the administration plans to issue yet another "midnight" ruling. This one would let timber companies pave over national forest logging roads so pine tree woods can become residential subdivisions with names like "Pine Woods."


The ruling would most immediately benefit the nation's largest private landowner, 8-million-acre-owning Plum Creek Timber. The Forest Service, directed by former timber industry lobbyist Mark Rey, had long been working on a paving deal with Plum Creek behind closed doors. It has been held up by outraged local officials who were not consulted over the impact of development on resources and by environmentalists gravely concerned about wildlife endangerments.
